Regional Group 04 - West Bohemia

The regional group has 49 individual members and one collective member - NPP Temelín. The individual members are mainly representatives of the former ŠKODA PLZEN, today's ŠKODA JS, ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION, but also representatives of other smaller companies in the field of defectoscopy operating in the Pilsen region, as well as companies involved in the qualification of test personnel (DQ Centrum, QC Plzeň) and last but not least members engaged in research (Centrum výzkumu Řež and the University of West Bohemia).

The area of interest of the RS4 group is vast, covering practically all non-destructive testing methods in various forms and applications. An interesting application is, for example, the operational inspections of VVER nuclear power plants carried out by ŠKODA JS. These inspections are carried out using a range of manipulators for automated non-destructive testing of reactor pressure vessels (including the lid), main circulation piping and reactor internals.

Members from the Rez Research Centre and the University Research Centre of the University of West Bohemia represent the research and development area of the West Bohemia RS4 regional group. The Rez Research Centre, based at Borské Pole, focuses mainly on ultrasonic testing methods, linear and non-linear PAUT and NEWS techniques, the magnetic material memory method (MMM), and non-contact measurements using 3D scanning and replicas.

Most of the activities are related to applied research, where the aim is to use individual NDT methods or combinations of them to solve problems in practice.
Since 2014, the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen has developed a modern inspection method: infrared non-destructive testing (IRNDT). The IRNDT method is based on changes in heat transfer in the material due to defects or other inhomogeneities. It is mainly used to inspect composite materials, spot welds, coatings, and surface and subsurface corrosion.

Sufficient qualified personnel is a prerequisite for reliable performance of the non-destructive test. As the introduction mentions, our regional group includes companies that qualify test personnel according to ISO 9712. These companies cooperate with Czech (APC) and German (Sector Cert) certification bodies to ensure a high level of qualification.

The range of activities of the RS4 group in non-destructive testing is extensive, and only a brief overview has been provided in the above text. Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
